New After-School Classes Open to ALL at Presentation School!

While reading Lorna Sheridan’s great Education column on SonomaNews.com, I found Presentation’s new line-up of spring after-school classes and had to share with you. The classes start  Tuesday, March 19, and are open to all students in Sonoma. The classes run from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays.

The classes offered  this trimester are: Engineering with Lego, Cross Fit, Chess Club, Jewelry Making, German, Clay Pinchpots, Mathletes, Jewelry-Making, Paper Arts and Yoga. Most are open to ages 5 and up. To place your child in a class, call 935-0122, ext. 111, or email Gretchen Armer at garmer@presentationschool.com. sophie christmas 39508Easter is on it’s way, March 31st in fact! It’s time to enjoy this springtime holiday with events up and down the Sonoma valley for the entire weekend- March 30th and 31st.  Here’s the scoop for all your Easter activities-Get ready, set, hop!

Saturday March 30, 2013

Sonoma Plaza Egg Hunt-This years EASTER EGG HUNT takes place on March 30., behind City Hall. The area is divided into 4 age groups: 2-3,4-5, 6-7, 8 years old & up. It starts at 10:00 AM. Sponsored by the Soroptimists of Sonoma. Don’t be late and be sure to bring a basket!

Dunbar School- Easter Egg Hunt & Garden Party- 10:00 am SHARP! Hundreds of eggs will be hidden behind the school in a good old-fashioned Easter Egg Hunt. This is a fabulous event and my kids had a great time last year!  After the Egg Hunt, there will be coffee and hot chocolate, baked goodies, tours of the Dunbar School garden, crafts, plants and garden related items for browsing. Get there early-the egg hunt starts on time!

Easter Children’s Fair – Petaluma; 12:00-3:00
Scavenger hunt around Petaluma Village Premium Outlets shopping center, carnival games, Jubilee Jumps, raffle prizes and photos with the Easter Bunny. The Petaluma Police Department will conduct free children’s finger-printing. Proceeds benefit the Simon Youth Foundation. Free; Petaluma Village Premium Outlets, 2200 Petaluma Boulevard North. Kenwood Community Club will host its annual Easter weekend breakfast from 8:00-12:00, at the Kenwood Depot on Warm Springs Road. Bring the whole family and join your neighbors for pancakes, ham, sausage, eggs, and fruit salad. Beverage choices are milk, coffee, juice and mimosas.Tickets are $10 ($5 for kids 10 and under) in advance and can be bought at the Kenwood Press office. Tickets at the door are $15 ($8 for kids 10 and under).

Before or after breakfast at the Depot, join in the fun at the Kenwood Plaza, where the Kenwood Firefighter’s Association will host an Easter egg hunt at 9 a.m. sharp. Special prize eggs will be hidden in each of the four separate areas for Preschool, K-1st, 2nd-3rd, and 4th-5th graders.

Yountville Community Park-Breakfast with Bunny and the Spring Egg Hunt; 8:00 AM - 11:30 AM Join us for the annual Breakfast with the Bunny from 8am-9:45am at Yountville Park! A breakfast of Pancakes, Sausages and beverages will be available for $5 per adult and $3 per child under 12. Directly following the breakfast will be the annual Egg Hunt. Starting at 10am, age groups will hunt every 10-15 minutes in separated sections.These events will happen rain or shine!

Easter Egg Hunt at Francis Ford Coppola Winery; 10:00

Bring the kids to search for colorful eggs loaded with fun surprises hidden within the vines. Registration required. 100% of proceeds being donated to the Redwood Empire Food Bank. Afterwards, enjoy a special menu at the outdoor Pool Cafe.

Easter Sunrise Service
The public is invited to the annual Easter Sunrise Service, held at the amphitheater in the Plaza of Sonoma at 6:00am. Free. Call 707-996-2736 for more information. Also Cline Cellars will be hosting their annual sunrise service. 6:15 am-7:30am; Experience the glory of Easter sunrise mass in the vineyard. Coffee and pastries will be served after the after the service. Both free.

Cline Cellars Picnic & Easter Egg Hunt, 11am-3pm

Larson Family Winery, 11:00-4:00pm
Easter is a time for families and fun.  Pack up the kids, bring a picnic and spend Easter in Larson Family Winery’s backyard.  They have a spacious lawn ideal for spending some time together.  They also have toys, coloring books and games for kids… and grownups.  Refreshing new releases will be available to taste!

Fairmont Mission Inn  - Easter weekend at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa has been a family tradition for generations of discerning travelers and Sonoma Valley residents. This year due to renovations throughout the resort, they will not be serving their usual extravagant Easter Sunday Buffet, however, Big 3 will be open and serving delicious food from their all day casual dining menu from 7am – 9pm. The menu will include seasonal daily specials including their famous Lemon Pancakes and Eggs Benedict.

Beauty and the Beast- Sonoma Valley High School is proud to present the Disney classic musical Beauty and the Beast at Sonoma Valley High School’s Little Theatre for their final weekend-March 8, 9,and 10. Shows are at 7:00 on Friday and Saturday and Sunday at 2:00. At a little over an hour the show is very family friendly and will be sure to impress! Adults-$15 and students, seniors $10. A good friend went last weekend and told me early bird, catches the worm at this market so be sure to pop by close to 9:00!

-Cornerstone Gardens- Where else can you let the kids run through a large water pipe, a huge border of daisy pinwheels and sit in a giant adirondack chair? And for FREE! Open everyday from 10:00-5:00pm.

-California Missions Museum- Want to see the entire Mission Trail under one roof and for free? Head to Cline Winery (also one of my favorite kid-friendly wineries) and take a tour of all 21 Mission Models that were shown at the World’s Fair on Treasure Island in 1939. Open 10:00-4:00pm everyday. FREE. While your there, be sure to take a tour of the entire Cline property stopping along the way to find the resident turtles, carp and birds. Grab a picnic and enjoy! -Depot Train Museum- My daughter and I stopped in last weekend and she loved the school display (especially the Teacher’s Rules) and ringing the bell. They also have a small dress up area.  Railroad buffs will love the Train Room and authentic railroad cars and history fanatics will enjoy the Victorian Life Displays. 270 1st Street West, Sonoma. -Girl Scout Cookie Time! Please support the local Girl Scouts if you see them out and about this weekend!

-Bouverie Preserve Guided Nature Walk; 9:30 am – 1:30 pm
Half-day Guided Nature Walks at Bouverie Preserve explore the 535-acre, private, non-profit, nature preserve. Participants are divided into small groups and paired with a trained Bouverie volunteer to explore the mixed evergreen forest, oak woodlands and rugged chaparral. The walks range from two to five miles. This is a great opportunity to explore this preserve, which is only open to the public on a limited basis throughout the year. Visitors of all ages are welcome. There is no fee for the program, but a $15 per person contribution is suggested and appreciated.

-Solar Viewing at Robert Ferguson Observatory. 11-3pm. Star Party at 7:00pm.

Prestwood School Talent Show Next Friday!

Looking for a fun night with the family? There will be over 20 acts with everything from piano recitals to ballet and of course a little Gangnam Style thrown in. The Prestwood School Talent Show is next Friday, March 9th at 6:00 and will be at the Veterans Memorial Building. A suggested donation of $8 for adults and $5 for kids. There will be a snack bar also. Come out and enjoy some local Sonoma talent! It is a great show!

The Barn Sale for the Schools-You can join in on the first Saturday of the month at Sonoma’s FIELD OF GREENS at 1777 West Watmaugh.
