Card making is on the agenda for the Saturday, January 12th class from 10:00 am- 12:00pm. The class is for ages 6-13 and all materials are included. $20 and you can sign-up here.

Does your daughter or son want to learn to knit? A new three week series for kids ages 9 and up will be starting on January 20th from 10:00am to 12:00pm. The remaining two sessions will be on February 3rd and 10th. The cost is $60 and all supplies are included. You can find more information and sign-up here. I learned to knit after my kids were born so it is a relatively new hobby for me. I can’t imagine learning when I was younger and having this skill and hobby for life.

We are so lucky to have such an amazing art studio here in Sonoma. My son and daughter attended a watercolor class over the summer at Artescape and had a wonderful time. I highly recommend their classes!

Have you or your kids ever taken a class at Artescape? Let me know by leaving me a comment!

Looking for Stocking Stuffer Central? Sonoma has you covered!

I am on a huge kick this year to do as much Christmas shopping as I can here in Sonoma. Everywhere I look, experts agree to help the economy in our own town, we must start with shopping locally. So, I hit the streets, looking for the best shops to buy toys and stocking stuffers for my kids while keeping my money here in Sonoma.

Here’s my five best stores you absolutely have to hit-

My first stop was the Marketplace (with CVS and Whole Foods) on at 201 West Napa Street. It has 3 great stores that are stocked to the brim with wonderful stocking stuffers for the kids.

Hollyhocks has rows and rows of puzzles, games and stickers. Prices range from $2.00-$20.00. They will be open on Christmas Eve and offer free wrapping for any item over $15.00. You do need to take your gift over to McCaulous store to get the wrapping.

McCaulou’s Kids, almost next door to Hollyhocks, has a great selection of stocking stuffers ranging in price from $.99 to $4.00 right by the register. Lots of kazoos and hackie sacks and and an entire case of Hello Kitty merchandise. The assortment is great and they have perfect little treats for boys and girls. Also will be open on Christmas Eve until about 4:00.

The last store is the Toy Shop on the end. The stocking stuffers were everywhere and the staff is very helpful. From Playmobil people, to Smencils and milk straws, they have bins filled with many unique and well made kids toys. Go in and check out the adorable stuffed animals and amazing game section! They will be open until about 3:30 on Christmas Eve and have free gift wrapping.

If you skip on over to downtown, your next street to hit is East Napa Street. My first stop was one of my very favorite stores, Tiddle E Winks. The owner, Heidi Geffen, is very friendly and extremely helpful. She can put together any theme you would like, such as baseball or Hello Kitty candies and trinkets, or you can just pick out lovely, little treats from yesteryear. From the Pez candy to the baseballs, your kids stocking will be brimming with treats! Also will be open on Christmas Eve until the last customer has been rung up (“Somewhere around 6:00ish” Heidi says.)

Right across the street you’ll find The Corner Store Kids. With a sign out front asking if I had stocking stuffers, I knew I had found the right place. The shelves are lined with books, marble games and unique stocking stuffers and all at great prices. Hello, Mento’s Geyser Tube and Marble Race Car-My son will love you!

My last stop is a new find down Broadway, almost on your way out of town. Fat Pilgrim has 2 stores that are filled to the brim with great stocking stuffers. Everything from delicious locally made jams to wonderfully smelling soap to chewing gum and jewelry~you are sure to finish up your list here. The adjacent store has all the Christmas decor and ornaments you could want. All were already 30% when I popped in last week. Definitely one of my new local faves!

Well, I hope this helps you to choose local when you have the opportunity. I guarantee your kids won’t be disappointed, your pocketbook, or our wonderful town! Have a wonderful Holiday!

There is no question that the holiday festivities are in full swing in Sonoma. For my family, it wouldn’t be Christmas time with out a frenzy of holiday cookie parties, trips to see Santa and holiday home tours!

Here are my top five favorites this weekend in Sonoma and a little beyond (but worth it!)-

Sebastiani Theatre Dec.2012

1~THE 7th ANNUAL HOLIDAY EXTRAVAGANZA – MUSIC, MAGIC & MORE! at the Sebastiani Theatre in Downtown Sonoma.  It will be a celebration of Sonoma Valley’s community through song, dance, and magic.  TWO MATINEE PERFORMANCES ONLY on Saturday, December 15 and Sunday, December 16, at 1:00 p.m. Proceeds from MUSIC, MAGIC & MORE! will benefit children’s performing arts programs at the Sebastiani Theatre. We went to the Halloween equivalent of this show and were blown away! My kids watched the entire show which ended up being almost three hours! I recommend getting tickets early!

2~We are very lucky to have a festive venue like Six Flags Discovery Kingdom just 30 minutes from Sonoma. My family and I have made a trip during Holiday in the Park every year for the past five years. It certainly is a holiday tradition for us and I hope your family will enjoy it too. My family faves are sledding, cookie decorating and all the holiday shows. The park will be open both days this weekend 2:00-9:00 on Saturday and 2:00 to 8:00pm on Sunday. Be sure to bundle up and bring snow gloves so your kids can play in the “snow” by the sledding area.

3~Sonoma Community Center music department hosts family-friendly Caroling in the Plaza at 3:00 on Saturday, December 15th. Participants will meet at the Community Center and travel around the plaza, sharing festive songs during the busy holiday shopping season. All those who are interested may drop by the Center on Saturday, December 15th at 3:00 pm. Following caroling, light refreshments will be available back at the Community Center.

4~The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn will have Lunch with Santa at the Big 3 Restaurant from 11:00-2:00 tomorrow, December 15th and also next weekend, December 22nd. Daily Complimentary Hot Spiced Cider will also be available in the Lobby Living Room daily in December from 12:00pm – 5:00pm. Stop by and have a walk around the lovely hotel grounds.

5~ Santa will be making a special stop at  the Larson Family Winery! Come on down and get your photo taken with Santa between 11:00am and 2:00pm! Bring the whole family, even the dog! Pack a picnic and while you are here taste the award winning wines!

Whether you try one or all five, your family is sure to create a new family tradition! Be sure to let me know in the comments, what Sonoma holiday traditions you share with your family!
